New designs, new workshops, new builds, and awards.

It’s all been happening in 2018!

A big thank you to everyone who braved the wild weather to make last weekend’s Open Studio event at Ash Farm such a great success! It was a really fun way to inaugurate the new workshop studio that was completed just this month, and wonderful to see familiar faces and meet new friends enjoying festive shopping and good company.

Many thanks as well to the wonderful vendors who provided such a diverse range of high quality and unique gifts.

If you were unable to join us this time – fear not! Plans are already afoot, not only to hold another Christmas gathering in 2019, but also to establish a new Spring/Summer event next year. Look for information about that in an upcoming newsletter.

Open Studio was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of a full and exciting year at Sian O’Doherty. Wonderwool Wales was a great start to the year’s shows, followed by the inspiring Contemporary Craft Fair in Bovey, Devon. In November, Sian exhibited at Made By Hand Wales in Cardiff where she was honoured to be awarded Best Maker in Wales 2018!

As well as selling a range of new designs alongside some signature pieces at these shows, Sian was able to promote her increasing range of machine knitting workshops – which have been enjoyed by lots of lovely, enthusiastic and talented knitters this year – as well as the new craft workshops that she is excited to be hosting in 2019.

Sian was also delighted to be asked to provide cushions for the new S4C building, yr Egin, at Carmarthen. It is always a treat to see her designs in place in a new home; each location provides a unique backdrop that brings the designs to life in a new way.

Lots to look forward to in 2019!

The New Year is an exciting time to make plans and look ahead to new challenges and adventures. 2018 has been very much about investing in the future of Sian O’Doherty and the coming year will see much of that behind the scenes work come to fruition. In support of the expanding range of workshops at Ash Farm, a new workshop studio has been built to provide a cosy but well-lit space to welcome both tutors and participants for days of creative learning.

It will be wonderful to see that space being well used from as early as January! Do look to see what new skills you could learn in 2019…

Sian has also spent much of 2018 collaborating with artisan producers and ethical yarn suppliers, including local alpaca farmers, Alpacas of Wales. Sian is looking forward to being able to provide luxury knitwear and accessories to a larger audience in 2019, including a wider range of alpaca accessories from her own animals at Ash Farm. Providing a product that is beautiful and ethical is paramount to Sian’s values.

There will be more news about these exciting developments, as well as an in-depth look at the ethical priorities so important to Sian as she develops her business, in the new year.

There is much to look forward to in the paddocks in 2019, too, with four new females set to join the herd of alpacas in January and – most exciting of all – four pregnancies with crias expected in June!

Don’t panic!

There is still time to pick up a last-minute gift from Sian O’Doherty, either online or at Ash Farm.

If you would like to stop by for a browse in the shop, just contact Sian to arrange a suitable time. You can also arrange to collect online purchases to beat the delivery deadlines.

Find lots of wonderful gift ideas on the website, from garments and accessories to workshop experiences, or opt for one of Sian’s new gift vouchers to give your loved one the pleasure of choosing their own luxury present.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
