Rhëdyr is the Welsh word for waterfalls
Inspired by Welsh blanket patterns with a mix of Estonian techniques, the Rhëydr mitts are a stylish and cozy long pair of fingerless gloves or mitts designed by Aleks Byrd that feature our very own Rheydr alpaca yarn from Ash Farm. Available as a download pattern copy.
An engaging knit and a perfect finished gift for the knitworthy person in your life.
Pattern Notes
The cuff of these fingerless mitts features embellishment in the form of ribbing, stranded colourwork and two types of braids; Kihnu vits and a two colour Twisted Braid.
The body of the mitt is worked in Stockinette stitch.
The thumb is created by placing select stitches on hold with waste yarn. The thumb is then knit by picking up the stitches put on hold. Additional stitches are picked up either side of the thumb to close gaps.
The top edge of the thumb and mitt are finished with a Kihnu vits and bound off in the contrast colour. There is a link to a video tutorial for the Kihnu its alongside written instructions.
Skill level: Advanced beginner; comfortable knitting with two colours in the round.
