This lovely three-day workshop offers a fantastic opportunity to continue refining your freemotion embroidery skills while creating your own beautiful handmade Textile Art Wreath.
It’s a perfect workshop for those who already have a basic understanding of freemotion embroidery and would like to develop their skills further. With plenty of guidance, demonstrations and expert tips along the way, the process of creating your wreath will help you build confidence and really elevate your freemotion embroidery.
You can choose to create your wreath using a pre-prepared template or, if you’re feeling adventurous, why not develop a design of your own?
Themes can include summer, floral, seaside, autumn, Scandi, animals and Christmas. You’ll have the freedom to combine different elements, patterns, fabrics and colours in whichever way you choose, allowing you to create a completely individual wreath that really feels like your own.
Day 1: Planning & Building the Background
We’ll begin by exploring the theme of your wreath and planning your overall design.
With a wide range of templates available, you’ll be able to select and combine elements to suit your chosen style and theme. Alternatively, you may wish to develop a theme from your own ideas, using simple drawings or printed images as inspiration.
The rest of the day will be spent creating the background elements of your wreath. We’ll look at how your choice of foliage works with your overall theme and explore how fabric, pattern and colour choices can make a real difference to the finished design.
Day 2: Creating Your Featured Elements
Day two focuses on the stars of the show – creating your chosen featured elements!
Whatever theme you have selected, these individual pieces will really begin to bring your wreath to life against the background of foliage.
You’ll be shown how to build up and stitch each element in a logical, manageable and ‘simple to sew’ order. As you work, you’ll also have the opportunity to introduce embellishments and additional details that complement your individual pieces and make them uniquely yours.
Day 3: Bringing It All Together
On our final day, we’ll begin by finishing any sewing from the previous two days and making sure you have enough elements and foliage to create a beautifully full wreath.
We’ll then bring everything together, experimenting with placement and developing an arrangement that feels cohesive, balanced and gives lovely coverage across your wreath.
You’ll be shown how to prepare the wreath base with padding and coordinating fabric, creating a sumptuous foundation ready for your textile pieces.
Finally, we’ll combine all the elements you’ve created over the previous two days, together with any additional embellishments you choose, to create your finished Textile Art Wreath – a completely individual piece to take home and enjoy.
