This advanced 3-day workshop builds on an array of freemotion skills by combining them into a wonderful Nature Inspired 3-dimensional lampshade design. It’s a perfect workshop for those who already have a solid understanding of freemotion embroidery and wish to advance their skills even further.
With light at the centre of this workshop we will look at how even the tiniest of fabric scraps can come together to make new artwork. From design concept to finished outcome with plenty of opportunity to style your lampshade according to your own individual taste. We will be focusing on combining fabrics and using dissolvable fabric to bring a 3-dimensional feel to your design. With expert tips, hands-on practice, and plenty of guidance taking you through design, development and creation of a stunning work of art to light up your home.
Day 1: Its all about design
On the first day we will examine a variety of inspirational pictures and learn how to combine and compose a unique design with a truly individual feel that will become your finished outcome. With planning and preparation key to the day, we will then start to combine fabrics together to build the main element of our design. As usual there will be a variety of fabrics to choose from so you are able to build your design to suit your own taste.
Day 2: Thread and 3D
Day 2 focuses on the 3-dimensional elements of your design by working with thread, fabric and dissolvable fabric. We will also start to bring our designs from day 1 to life with the addition of thread using the wonderfully textural technique of thread sketching.
Day 3: Bringing It All Together
On the final day, we will work on our background of our design, ensuring it complements our chosen design rather than detracting from it. Then we’ll be ready to bring together our stitched elements from the previous days to create our desired design. You’ll be shown how to construct your 20cm drum lampshade and then finish off your work of art with your 3-dimensional stitched elements from Day 2.
