Celebrating Spring!

It’s that wonderful time of year again. The light has returned bringing increased energy to our longer days, the spring flowers are out in force (it’s been a fabulous year for primroses and bluebells in Pembrokeshire this year) and the promise of summer is on the horizon for those who like it hot. In the meantime, it is also the time of year when you never know what to wear! Basking in the sun in a t-shirt one minute, shivering in the rain the next… layers are the answer! Have a look at some of Sian’s fabulous new ponchos and wraps and have one folded in a bag, ready to whip out at a moment’s notice to keep off that sudden springtime chill.

A new look

There are lots of exciting developments at Sian O’Doherty this May, including the launch of Sian’s new website. Your favourite features like the Lookbook are still a highlight, newly updated with wonderful new photography showcasing fabulous new products and designs as well as some Sian classics.

The shop has been reorganised and made more user friendly and there are new pages such as the Journal section where you can find news about what is happening at home at Ash Farm and away at shows and exhibitions around the country.

You can also find all of the back issues of the newsletter there, including interviews and features.

Like everything that we present to you at Sian O’Doherty, the new website has been a labour of love for all involved – we hope that you enjoy the site and find plenty to take you back for return visits.

Wonderwool was wonderful

As always, we had a wonderful time at Wonderwool Wales last weekend. The elements may have done their best to challenge the spirits – such a contrast to the high temperatures of the Easter weekend – but we exhibitors and visitors alike displayed a determination to enjoy ourselves that was not to be denied by inclement weather. After all – we were wisely dressed in wool! (And alpaca!)

It was lovely to see so many of you there, catching up with old friends and making new ones. A warm welcome to all of our new newsletter subscribers; we hope you will enjoy spending a little time with us each month.

Plenty of you warmed your chilly selves with some new goodies from the selection that Sian brought to the show and it was lovely to see her designs being worn with such pizzazz and enthusiasm!

There was also a lot of interest in the workshops taking place at Ash Farm this year. If you missed out on learning about what’s on offer, do check out the workshops on the new site for all the details

‘Wonderwool was a brilliant! Thank you all who popped by and said hello. It was great meeting existing and new customers and being able to show my new designs to you was such a highlight. It’s so exciting seeing my work being worn and hearing your thoughts on new designs/colourways and what you would like to see more of in the future. Thank you all and I hope to see you next year!

Sian O’Doherty

We hope to see lots of you at the Open Studio weekend at Ash Farm in August. Look for more details about that exciting new summer event in a future newsletter.

New girls at Ash Farm

There really is never a dull moment at Ash Farm. 2019 has seen the arrival of four new alpacas to the farm. Annabelle, Talulah, Aioffa and Lucille have all settled in happily at their new home and are fitting into their extended family very well.

And they haven’t come alone! Each of them is pregnant and due to give birth in June, along with four ladies in the original herd. We can’t wait to show off pictures of the crias in a few weeks.

May is shearing time for alpacas in Wales, so it will be a busy month shearing, scouring and sorting the best of the fleeces to be spun up for the new collections at Sian O’Doherty. Those of you who saw Sian at Wonderwool enjoyed a sneak peek at the wonderful ranges of alpaca sweaters that she has been developing, from fine, drapey, all season tunic-style jumpers to bold and chunky winter warmers. They were very popular items at the show and Sian is looking forward to bringing them to a wider audience online very soon

Coming soon – near you?

Sian is looking forward to exhibiting again at Bovey Tracey Craft Festival in beautiful Devon from 7-9th June. This festival is one of the highlights of the year. If you are in the area that weekend, do stop by and see the wonderful range of crafts on offer there, and do stop by to say, “hello,” and introduce yourselves.
