In this popular skills-based workshop you’ll spend the day sewing elasticated bamboo briefs in a style of your choice. From a pre-prepared pattern block (sizes 8–20, hips 30”–44”), you can mix and match waistlines (low, mid, high) and leg cuts (low or high) to create anything from full-coverage hipsters to cheeky minis….!
– In the morning, you’ll be given a wealth of information and techniques to try. We’ll start with sampling and elastic techniques, then choose your size and style, and trace your own set of patterns to amend and keep.
– In the afternoon, after a gorgeous lunch provided, you will have the time to make your briefs come to life, using a soft bamboo jersey and a choice of decorative trims.
This class uses stretch fabrics, so machine experience is essential. Please bring your own machine (info below). There is a big learning curve with these trims and fabrics! Emily has packed it full of information and design choice so you truly get a worthwhile experience. It is an intense but rewarding day full of technical insight, which will certainly give you a new appreciation for the game once you’ve made your first pair!
Breaks can be taken as needed, with group breaks in the morning and afternoon.

* 10.00am – 4.30pm (please arrive 10 minutes early to ensure a prompt start). Lunch at 1.00pm
* Saturday, October 18th
* £80 + £10 materials fee paid directly to the tutor on the day
ABOUT THE TUTOR:
You will be taught by our very own Emily Holliday! She is a lingerie specialist, working locally as a remote garment technologist and manufacturer. She graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2023, with knowledge in all things from lingerie design, construction, and the intimates and swimwear industry. Her blend of technical skill and creative design ensures you’ll learn professional techniques in an accessible way.
Description
Sew your own bamboo jersey knickers! Join us at Ash Farm for a relaxed, hands-on workshop where you’ll design, cut, and stitch your own custom-fit briefs. Lunch included, machine sewing experience required.
What you will need to bring:
– A sewing machine WITH stretch needles. Some sewing machine experience is necessary for this class (changing stitch lengths, widths and threading your machine, troubleshooting).
– Machine note: You may not be able to change the stitch widths on some very basic domestic sewing machines. It is still totally possible to come to the class with one, and you can still sample all the finishes, but this may affect your final design choice as some finishes will work better than others!
– you might want to wear a fitting garment, such as leggings, in case you want to try any samples on for size.
– You may want to bring small decorations (ribbons or beads) of your choice to finish the knicker. Some may be provided on the day, but this is totally up to you!
The day:
10:00am – Meet the tutor and run through the brief
10:30am – Begin sample making: elastic attachment and stitch sampling
11:30am – Try-on and size selection / break
12:00pm – Designing: fabric & elastic selection, tracing blocks, finalising patterns and cutting out fabric
1:00pm – Lunch, homemade in the cafe by Sian!
2.00pm – Cutting your fabrics
2.30pm – Sew your final piece
4:30pm – Finish

I had such a great day at Emily’s workshop! We enjoyed a beautiful creative space, with a friendly atmosphere and warm encouraging environment. I have used sewing machines before for one-off projects, but Emily’s thorough explanation of each stage ensured that everyone knew what they were doing. Perfectly set up, with opportunities to experiment on the beautiful fabric and lace/edging that Emily had brought with her with a really informative hand out.
