The bedding Goldilocks dreamed of….

When a new product has been in development for a long time behind the scenes, it is always a particularly exciting moment when you can present it to the world, and Sian was thrilled to launch her new range of bedding – duvets, pillows and mattress toppers – during Digital Craft Festival last month. Everything about this process has been about getting each component – “just right” – and the alpaca fibre from Ash Farm has played a big role in the ultimate success of this project.

Regularly too cold or too hot in bed? An alpaca duvet could well be the answer to make your night’s sleep “just right” too. [Read more about this affordable luxury here…] The hollow alpaca fibres are wonderful insulators keeping you much warmer than synthetic alternatives at the same weight, but their unique structure is also wonderfully breathable, helping to wick moisture throughout the night and preventing overheating. Natural nocturnal temperature fluctuations that can caused sleep disturbance are regulated to help ensure a good night’s sleep.

Alpaca fibres are naturally anti-allergenic and anti-microbial – like sheep’s wool, the fibre is somewhat self-cleaning and discourages mites and other night-time nasties that are particular allergens for many sufferers, but is also lanolin free, excluding another cause of allergies that could be a concern. The bedding can be supplied in organic cotton by request. Whether you are looking for king-sized comfort or a safe and natural cot blanket, these are an excellent choice for a good night’s sleep.

The pillows also come in two sizes and can be stuffed to create a soft, medium or firm finish according to your own preference, so your own pillow can be “not too hard, not too soft but…. just right!” (Sorry – we couldn’t resist!)

A perfect wedding present or gift for any occasion, the bedding comes beautifully packaged in cotton bags with the Sian O’Doherty branding.

Hello, handsome!

Alpacas really are marvellous. Did you know that they can slow down the development of their babies in response to poor weather conditions and even time their births to give them the maximum chance of survival? Most are born before midday to give them time to get over the shock(!) and get up on their feet and fed before dark falls. And they – very sensibly – prefer to give birth in dry weather. Well, the poor winter and recent wet weather has certainly slowed down the new arrivals this year (a national-wide observation) but we were all so excited to see this little one put in an appearance just a week ago.

As you see, this little fella has bags of personality, and the fibre artists among us just can’t help but admire that beautiful, rich chestnut-brown. Oh, my! So handsome!

Keep a look out for more adorable pictures over on Instagram over the next month, as we keep as eyes on the fields for the next new arrival. There are still three to come!

Don’t forget that you can send any suggestions for names by replying on Instagram or by using the contact form.

Ash Farm Workshops are back!

Sian is so delighted to be able to welcome you back to Ash Farm for machine knitting workshops from September! Some of the planned workshops by our friends and experts in other crafts will hopefully not be far behind – watch this space.

First up is Sian’s two-day Beginners Knitting Machine Workshop. There are a couple of places still available. Let’s Meet Again at Craft Festival Bath…

So many opportunities to see you all have, sadly, been lost this year, but Sian is delighted that the Craft Festival event in Bath has been scheduled to take place on 28-29th November. With more vendors than ever, this exciting gathering of designers and makers will be a real highlight this year. Find more details about the show here.

Looking ahead a little further…

We are also please to announce that plans are afoot to hold an Open Studio event for Christmas at Ash Farm. It will look a little different to previous years, but the welcome will be just as warm and the festive spirit strong. Watch this space for more details coming soon.
